Ainsley Harriott and Kelly Holmes Put Healthy Eating on the Menu for Students
A new educational partnership between Ainsley Harriott and Dame Kelly Holmes has been launched today, aiming to redress the balance of university students not cooking for themselves – by educating them about how easy it can be to cook nutritious meals, and to understand more about nutrition and how detrimental it can be to their health if it’s neglected.
The collaboration comes on the back of new research which identified an alarming “university challenge” facing today’s student – the kitchen. According to the findings from Aviva, 50% of university students in Britain don’t know how long it takes to hard boil an egg. with almost one in ten (9%) believing it took as long as 30 minutes! 40% of students claim they don’t have time to cook nutritious meals, and 37% said they couldn’t afford to cook healthy meals – yet one in three admitted to tucking into a takeaway up to twice a week. Lack of knowledge is also cited as reason for not cooking as almost a quarter of students (22%) state they don’t know any recipes – this is evident with one in ten (10%) of students admitting they have no idea what a classic dish like cottage pie is.
